Association Perspective

It's a small world after all.

The Angus world comes together for two events this fall that afford the opportunity to network with others in the Angus business, learn and see new things, and renew old friendships and business contacts.

The first is the National Angus Conference & Tour (NAC&T), which is fast becoming one of the most popular events in the Angus business. Last year's event in Montana hosted more than 800 breeders from across the country and around the world, and included a tour of some of the most picturesque and progressive ranches in America.

This year's conference and tour, which takes place Sept. 6-8 in Athens, Ga., is likewise shaping up to be one of the best ever.

The daylong conference includes a top-flight slate of educational seminars, panelists and well-known keynote speaker Bruce Vincent, a third-generation logger from Libby, Mont.

The tour takes participants on a two-day trip across the state to visit some of Georgia's leading Angus operations and other agricultural centers. The early registration deadline is Aug. 1.

The 2011 NAC&T will be filled with opportunity and, of course, some old-fashioned Southern hospitality. We're grateful to our major sponsor, Land O'Lakes Purina Feed LLC, for supporting this valuable endeavor.

As many people commented to me during last year's NAC&T, if you miss this event, you're really missing a critical educational and networking opportunity. For more information, visit www.nationalangusconference.com.

Around the world

The second event is the World Angus Secretariat (WAS) Technical Meeting, which is being hosted by the Argentine Angus Association Oct. 8-15 in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
Established in 1969, the WAS facilitates the sharing of information between the various Angus associations of the world; works to ensure the genetic purity and exchange of genetic information; promotes the breed internationally; and has developed a leading international youth exchange program.

Coinciding with this event is the 33rd National Angus Spring Meeting, the 12th National Fair of Angus Calves and Angus Genetics Expo, which will be a great opportunity to see Angus cattle produced by our Argentine colleagues, and to attend an auction of semen, embryos and breeding cattle.

Since Angus cattle were first imported to Argentina in 1879, just a few years after George Grant first brought Angus to the Kansas plains, the Angus breed has achieved a record of success that parallels their growth in North America. Of the 50 million head of cattle in the country, more than half are purebred Angus or Angus crosses.

There's no doubt that the Argentines and the Georgians are preparing two great events. Whether you attend one or both, these opportunities will positively impact your business, expanding your reach across the country and around the globe.
