Association Perspective

Association helps serve commercial partners.

Angus bull buyers are not just buyers; they are our partners. We, the American Angus Association and our membership (Angus breeders), work very hard to earn and keep our commercial partners' business.

We realize serving your seedstock needs as a commercial cattleman is the benchmark for most of what we do. That's why the Association has so many programs geared to helping the commercial producer.

The Association and its affiliates have many programs and resources to help serve our commercial partners. Angus Herd Improvement Records (AHIR®), DNA profiles for sire evaluation, weekly expected progeny differences (EPDs) and $Values are all tools available for breed improvement. All of these combine to create valuable current information on your registration certificate that assists commercial cattlemen in making bull selections, which, in turn, affects your bottom line.

Another selection decision-making tool for our commercial partners is the new Certified Angus Beef LLC (CAB) GeneMax program. Creating demand is important in our industry, and CAB's supply development and brand recognition have created demand for Angus beef, thus a demand for Angus-sired feeder cattle and Angus-sired cattle. Visibility through all Association efforts has enhanced Angus acceptance.

There are marketing efforts through the Association to assist our commercial partners, like AngusSource® and Gateway (see The Source column in the EXTRA for more information) and various education and communication efforts. For example, the Angus Beef Bulletin, the Angus Beef Bulletin EXTRA, the Angus Journal and the many topic websites from Angus Productions Inc. (API), plus The Angus Report and I Am Angus.

Regional managers are many times the first point of contact for commercial partners and a liaison to the many services available. Creating relationships with commercial partners is important, and keeping them is even more so. Check with the Association to fully understand and use all programs and resources that are available.
