Time to retire the old bull.

The new advances in breeding cattle coupled with using genomics have created higher accuracies in expected progeny differences (EPDs). This allows you, the commercial breeder, to purchase a young bull with as much accuracy of EPDs as a bull that has already had his first crop of calves. With the market price of feeder calves at prices that we could only dream about a few short years ago, this makes it even more important to put more selection emphasis on birth weight, growth and carcass traits.
