Angus Along the Hudson
This year's National Angus Conference & Tour highlights rural New York.
Scheduled for Aug. 28-30, this year's National Angus Conference & Tour, “Angus Along the Hudson,” will be headquartered out of Albany, N.Y., and includes trips to upstate New York and historical locales.
“We can't ask for better scenery during the 2013 NAC&T,” says Shelia Stannard, former American Angus Association director of activities and events. “Rural New York is beautiful, and when you add Angus cattle dotting the skyline, it's breathtaking.”
The conference will focus on consumers and business. In an area full of consumers who ask more questions about where their food comes from, conference attendees will hear about advocating and transparency, marketing genetics and end products, the business side of beef, preparing for the future and more.
Conference attendees will hear from keynote Chef John Doherty, formerly of the Waldorf=Astoria and now an independent contractor; David O'Diam, Certified Angus Beef LLC (CAB); Debbie Lyons-Blythe, Life on a Kansas Ranch blog; Eric Grant, American Angus Association; Kip Palmer, Palmer Foods; and keynote speaker Scott Vernon, Vernon Communications. Additionally, attendees will also hear from staff members of Angus Genetics Inc., the conference sponsor Purina; Association President Phil Trowbridge; and Association CEO Bryce Schumann.
Tour stops will include several New York farms, plus a few nonagricultural stops. Tour stops for the first day include Garret Farms, Hillsdale; the Norman Rockwell Museum, Stockbridge, Mass.; and Trowbridge Farms, Ghent. The second day will include New York stops, including Heathcote Farm, Amenia; Walbridge Farms LLC, Millbrook; Hyde Park, including an option of the Franklin Delano Roosevelt (FDR) home or the Vanderbilt Mansion; and Rally Farms, Millbrook.
Due to space restrictions, the amount of attendees and time, participants will have to choose between FDR's home and the Vanderbilt Mansion. Please be sure to mark your preference on your registration information.
Registration will be available at www.angus.org. Early registration is $175 per person and is due July 15. After that date, registration increases to $250. Walk-ins will be accepted as space is available.
The headquarters hotel will be the Albany Marriott. Attendees are encouraged to make their own hotel reservation, and there is a block rate for conference attendees.
