New Products

Prevent scours

ImmuCell has introduced First Defense® Tri-Shield™, a first of its kind USDA-approved scours preventative for all three primary scours-causing pathogens in newborn calves: rotavirus, coronavirus and K99+ E. coli.

The new product combines the E. coli and coronavirus antibodies contained in the company’s legacy product, First Defense, with a guaranteed level of rotavirus antibodies.

Administered orally in a single-dose gel tube, the new product eliminates the need for calf- or dam-level scours vaccinations, according to the company. One dose provides immediate immunity. There’s no need to stimulate an immune response or follow up with annual boosters. All calves are protected equally with guaranteed antibody levels in every dose.

Increase energy

Syngenta suggests feeders improve profit potential by using Enogen® Feed corn hybrids fed as grain or silage to provide increased energy availability to cattle.

Studies conducted by the University of Nebraska–Lincoln have shown rations with Enogen Feed corn (fed as dry-rolled corn) can increase the potential for a higher percentage of postruminal starch digestibility; increase total tract digestibility of starch; and decrease fecal output of starch, which indicates increased starch digestibility and better utilization.

In addition to providing a benefit in the feed, the hybrids also offer benefits for crop production. With proven genetics and traits, Enogen Feed hybrids can deliver excellent in-field performance — equal to or exceeding that of other high-performing corn hybrids — with no additional agronomic management challenges, unlike some silage-specific hybrids. Additionally, growers have the flexibility to chop for silage or harvest for grain.

Producers can incorporate the hybrids into their operations by replacing the corn or silage currently grown and complying with basic stewardship requirements.

Tillage technology

John Deere TruSet technology

John Deere has announced it is making TruSet™ depth, pressure-control and mapping functions available on more new and late-model tillage tools, including the 2720 Disk Ripper, for 2018. This gives operators more precise, on-the-go control of tillage functions, plus mapping and data management.

Introduced in 2015 on the 2730 combo ripper, tillage functionality has been expanded to more tillage and nutrient application tools during the last few years.

The 2720 disk ripper is the latest tillage tool available with TruSet, giving operators the ability to run deeper over end rows or compacted areas, or shallow on hilltops and light soils.

In addition, the active hydraulic stabilizer wheels are available on the nine standard 22-foot (ft.)-5-inch (in.) and the 11 standard 27-ft.-5-in. 2720 Disk Ripper models.

No winter burn

Brookside Agra H20 Excel

Brookside Agra suggests using its natural water conservation agent H2OExcel™ to prevent winter desiccation, also known as winter burn, a common type of winter injury that occurs in vegetation when the amount of water lost by chilly winter winds exceeds the amount of water the plant can draw up through the frozen soil. The results are slow-to-green lawns or dead patches, perennial plants that are slow to emerge in spring, and browning/yellowing leaves and needles in evergreens and broad-leaf trees.

One of the primary ways to deter winter desiccation is to provide adequate water and nutrients to vegetation for as long as the ground is not frozen. Experts suggest 1 inch (in.) per week of water or saturation to a depth of 12-18 in.

The water conservation agent can help to reduce soil surface tension and allow hardened soils to absorb water and nutrients three to five times faster. Made from a proprietary blend of desert plant extracts, H2OExcel will not harm plants, animals or humans, and has been proven to boost plant strength and yield and increase root mass and length while using less water and fertilizer.

The product can be safely blended with fertilizers, pesticides and herbicides and is ideal for use on golf course fairways and tee boxes, crops, landscaping and fruit and vegetable gardens, among other vegetation. The product ingredients are on the Generally Recognized as Safe (GRAS) list.
