Association Perspective

Preparation and rewards.

Agriculture is full of preparation. Fall is the time to reap rewards, but only because of the preparation done in spring and summer. Farmers are harvesting crops resulting from preparations done during planting and growing seasons. Cattlemen are weaning spring calves resulting from the genetic choices made, calving, growing and more. With all the hard work and preparation that went into these calves, why not take the steps to get the most premiums out of them?

Preparing to market your calves doesn’t have to be hard. AngusLinkSM takes care of some of the preparation for you. You’re likely already doing the hard work necessary, AngusLink will just help you document it. The USDA Process Verified Program (PVP) offers six claims — Age and Source, Non-Hormone Treated Cattle, AL-NeverEver 3, AL-AngusVerified, AL-Calf Management, and AL-Cattle Care and Handling — and a Genetic Merit Scorecard®. These are all tools to tell potential buyers of the preparation done with these calves, both in terms of genetics and management. AngusLink helps buyers realize the quality of your cattle, and AngusLink’s Marketing Document helps tell more buyers about your calves before the sale.

You’ve put in seasons of work on your calves. Make sure to finish the job when it is time to market your calves. Call the Commercial Programs Department at 816-383-5100 to get started.
