Demystifying Regenerative Ranching

Four myths busted associated with regenerative agriculture.

According to Jeff Goodwin, some people just don’t get it. They don’t understand the term “regenerative ranching.” Goodwin and fellow Noble Research Institute (NRI) consultant Caitlin Hebbert are trying to help ranch folk understand what regenerative ranching is and what it is not. That was the focus of the NRI team’s Learning Lounge presentation offered during the 2021 Cattle Industry Convention hosted Aug. 10-12 in Nashville, Tenn.

News & Notes

Views on Cattle Contract Library Act of 2021.

On Oct. 19, Reps. Dusty Johnson (R-SD) and Henry Cuellar (D-TX) introduced the Cattle Contract Library Act of 2021 (H.R.5609) to the U.S. House of Representatives. The bill was referred to the House Ag Committee, which passed the bill directing USDA to create and maintain a library for cattle contracts within USDA’s Agricultural Marketing Service.

Ag Technologies and Quality of Life

Automated systems score high in 15-year study.

A Kansas State University agricultural economist is taking a step-back approach while carving out a new way of looking at the returns of precision agricultural technology.

Feeding Outside the Box

Alternative feed options and considerations offered.

Weather has made feeding cows tricky in many parts of the country this year. Traditional feeds are scarce or downright expensive. However, there are often alternatives, according to David Bohnert, beef extension specialist and ruminant nutritionist with Oregon State University and the Eastern Oregon Agricultural Research Center at Burns, Ore.

Association Perspective

Preparation and rewards.

Agriculture is full of preparation. Fall is the time to reap rewards, but only because of the preparation done in spring and summer. Farmers are harvesting crops resulting from preparations done during planting and growing seasons. Cattlemen are weaning spring calves resulting from the genetic choices made, calving, growing and more. With all the hard work and preparation that went into these calves, why not take the steps to get the most premiums out of them?

Talon Internship Accepting Applications

Angus/Talon Youth Educational Learning Program internship applications available for 2022.

Hands-on experience is arguably the most valuable way to learn. Just ask the four young people who interned this summer with the Talon Internship Program. The Talon Internship is a learning opportunity for college students to gain new experiences while spending the summer working and learning on an Angus host ranch. Interns learn about the industry, giving them the foundation to be advocates for the entire beef and agricultural industry. Angus breeders can host an intern during the summer or fall.
