Innovations in livestock trailer design

Featherlite Lazer stock trailerFeatherlite Trailers has introduced a new trailer addition for its 2011 product line: the Lazer stock trailer, featuring rounded air spaces. The new trailer is built with aluminum sheets on the inside of the trailer's structural side posts instead of being welded to the outside of them. The result is a smooth, flush interior that is easier to clean, according to the company.

The new trailer is available in 20-foot (ft.), 24-ft. and 29-ft. lengths. It has a standard 7-ft. width and rides on tandem rubber torsion axles with electric brakes. Like all of the company's 2011 models, the trailer has new LED clearance lights, featuring a new rounded design, making them small and easier to replace, the company says. The new trailer is available for order at any of the company's dealerships.

Point-and-click scale

The ClicRweight,™ a laptop-mounted device that takes the guesswork out of weighing cattle in the field, has been developed by Joey Spicola Sr., a West Texas cattle operator, and his son, Joey Jr. The hardware is comprised of a small powerful tablet personal computer with 3-D imaging cameras, all encased in durable metal housing.

The CRW-1000 handheld unit is carried against the operator's torso and secured by a neck strap. The device captures an image of the animal and builds a 3-D model. The user-friendly "point-click-and-weigh" application breaks that model down into thousands of pieces that are processed by the company's proprietary algorithms to generate an accurate weight. The CRW-1000 can store up to 1,000 past historical weights and can upload and download data vis USB port.

Developed over a five-year period, the unit is easily carried by one person and offers simple yet effective software that produces clear, concise results in less than five seconds.

Surface drainage analysis

Trimble has introduced EZ-Surface™ software specifically designed for farm surface and subsurface drainage applications.

The new software works with the Autoslope feature of the company's AgGPS® FieldLevel II system, which runs on the FmX™ integrated display. The desktop software allows farmers and drainage contractors to analyze fields surveyed with FieldLevel II by viewing 3-D field models, watershed maps, contours, surface flow paths and waterflow directions.

From this analysis, the user can determine the most appropriate and efficient locations for surface ditches or farm tile drainage lines. These lines can be drawn on the map taking into account the field topography and real-world obstacles by viewing them over a Google® Maps image.

The new software became available in March. Visit www.trimble.com/locator for more information.

The cutter offers a full 12-foot (ft.) cutting width, a unique "wing-bar" blade carrier, direct acting suspension system, equal angle fully pivoting tongue, fully hinged wing connection, and greaseable tongue and axle pivots.
