New Products

Advertising DNA-profiled cattle for sale

Igenity® — a division of Merial — and Global Animal Management (GAM) have announced that customers of Igenity can now post information about upcoming sales on www.cattlepost.com, giving buyers access to information about sales featuring cattle profiled with Igenity — all in one place, free of charge.

The companies intend to provide a place where commercial producers who want to buy cattle with all the information available can connect with seedstock producers who are providing comprehensive profiles on their sale cattle.

To post information, Igenity customers can log in with the same username and password they use for the company website. Angus breeders who have genomic-enhanced expected progeny differences (EPDs) from Angus Genetics Inc.® (AGI) and Igenity can log into the site with their AGI barcode number and ZIP code.

Customers of GAM have already used CattlePost.com to market their Tri-Merit® cattle, the company's USDA process-verified program (PVP) approved for source and age verification and as a data service provider. Tri-Merit is also an approved animal tracking database (ATD) for National Animal Identification System (NAIS) and is country-of-origin (COOL) compliant.

For more information Igenity customers can call 1-877-443-6489 or visit www.igenity.com/beef. For more information about GAM or Tri-Merit, customers can call 1-800-235-9824 or visit www.tri-merit.com.

Combination treatment for BRD

Intervet/Schering-Plough Animal Health has announced that Resflor Gold® has been approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for the treatment of bovine respiratory disease (BRD) associated with four major bovine respiratory pathogens, including Mannheimia haemolytica, Pasteurella multocida, Histophilus somni, and, now, Mycoplasma bovis. Mycoplasma bovis is an often-overlooked pathogen causing BRD, mastitis and arthritis in cattle.

Resflor Gold is the only medication on the U.S. market that combines the antibiotic florfenicol (active ingredient in Nuflor Gold®) and the non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) flunixin meglumine (active ingredient in Banamine®) into one convenient dose for treatment of BRD. The combination drug allows for the treatment of adverse effects of BRD while helping to eliminate the cause of the disease.

The drug is available by prescription only. For more information, visit www.resflorgold.com.

Mobile power source

Premier Power LLC, Alden, Iowa, has introduced a mobile power takeoff (PTO) power source they call "The Bull."

Designed for farm operations needing the flexibility of an efficient PTO power source in multiple locations, the unit features a compact, four-wheel, trailered power unit with a Tier III engine that can be used to operate PTO-powered equipment at a lower engine RPM, providing tractor-free PTO power at significantly lower fuel costs, according to the release.

The unit can be pulled behind a pickup or SUV, eliminating the need to operate equipment using tractors, which are more difficult to move quickly between one location and another. The unit also offers better mobility and reduced wear on more expensive tractors.

The unit can power equipment such as manure pumps, generators and grain vacs in places where they may need to be operating for hours at a time. According to the company's testing, using the portable unit can save up to 3 gallons (gal.) of fuel per hour compared to a tractor.

"The Bull" is available in two different models, the P150, which features dual output PTO (540 or 1,000 RPM), two hydraulic quick-coupler remotes and a 195-gal. tank; and the PX150, which also includes a Category I and Category II adjustable 3-point hitch, hydraulic leveling outriggers for stability in uneven terrain, a tool storage compartment and a 175-gal. tank.

Sponsored by Drovers and DuPont Crop Protection, beef producers and pasture managers can now access information on strategic pasture and rangeland management techniques, including information on grazing practices, weed control, pasture revitalization and range conservation on the Pasture & Rangeland Resource Center website, www.drovers.com/pasture.

Free cattle listing service

XF Enterprises launched a new website May 17, with information on the site and the use of its cattle listing service made free for everyone, XF customers and non-customers alike, according to the release.

Optimum Transition was designed as a conduit for connecting all sectors of the beef cattle production chain: cow-calf, stocker/backgrounder, preconditioner and feedyard operators. It also provides a system to document the nutrition, animal health and production practices of calves at each level of the production chain, making it easier to age- and source-verify and market calves.

The cattle listing service on the site allows anyone at any level of the production chain to list cattle for sale or search for cattle to purchase. Optimum Transition's goal is to facilitate the one-on-one sale of cattle between seller and buyer. All financial transactions are between the seller and buyer; Optimum Transition just brings them together.

XF Enterprise customers, including about 2,500 cow-calf operators and more than 150 feedyards, will automatically have the opportunity to sign up for Optimum Transition and then receive weekly e-mails with cattle listings. Interested buyers and sellers can sign up on the site, and cattle can be listed for sale right away.

Visit www.optimumtransition.com or call 1-877-586-6711 and visit with COO Wes Klett with questions.

"Green" crop protection

Gowan Co. LLC has been granted the U.S. crop protection marketing rights for Confirm® 2F insecticide by Nippon Soda Co. Ltd. and plans to start distributing product in a mid-July timeframe.

Nippon Soda Co. Ltd. acquired the brand and its active ingredient — tebufenozide — from Dow AgroSciences on March 31 of this year. As part of this agreement, Dow AgriSciences will sell out existing inventory prior to the Cowan distribution date.

Confirm controls a broad spectrum of external Lepidopteran pests across a wide range of crops, including sugarcane, caneberries, cranberries, bushberries, vegetables, nut crops and tree fruit. While it is very effective against target pests, it's easy on most beneficial species and has low impact on aquatic organisms, earning the Presidential Green Challenge Award.
