Organic certification listed

Alltech's Bioplex® ZN 15% OA has been listed by the Organic Materials Review Institute (OMRI). OMRI, which is specific to the U.S., is a national nonprofit organization that determines which input products are allowed for use in organic production and processing.

Listed products may be used in operations that are certified organic under the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Natural Organic Program. With this listing, Bioplex can officially be used by organic farming operations across the U.S. For more information visit www.alltech.com.

Feed-grade inflammation management

R&D LifeSciences LLC has announced the introduction of ReNuvigen™, a feed-grade inflammation management product. The patented product allows the company to offer a research-proven feed-through solution designed to reduce chronic gut inflammation and improve various production parameters in food-producing animals.

The company cites its extensive data as proof that the product is responsible for better feed conversion, daily gains and overall immune status success when fed to various production animal species, including beef and dairy calves, swine, poultry and aquaculture.

The company says the new product is the key to greatly reducing or eliminating the limiting effects chronic inflammation has on the digestive tract as well as the key limiting factor affecting nutrient absorption.

The product is available in 50-pound (lb.) bags and is sold exclusively through the company's current strategic distribution partners Anipro XFormance Feeds (www.anipro.net or 1-800-558-3341), International Nutrition Inc. (www.ini-agworld.com or 402-331-0123) and Nutra Blend LLC (www.nutrablend.net or 1-800-657-5657).

Organic technology for sludge treatment

A new all-natural and organic technology called BiOWiSH™ has been introduced as a method for livestock waste management. It effectively breaks down waste matter comprised of fats, proteins, carbohydrates and cellulose, and is suitable for use in most manure treatment systems.

The product rapidly digests sludge, manages nutrient discharge and reduces odor from manure lagoons, according to the company. It is easy to apply and is adaptable to any existing farm infrastructure. It is 100% natural, biodegradable, nontoxic and chemical-free.

Suggested uses include as a bedding treatment; in composting; in manure lagoons; in biogas production; and, pending U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approval, as a feed supplement.

The new technology reduces odors, reduces the energy required for aeration, reduces the volume of biosolids and reduces the need for chemical usage for sludge treatment, according to the release.

Livestock markers

SyrVet Inc. now produces livestock markers in push-up dispensers and animal marking sticks in twistable dispensers. The markers and sticks are highly visible, produce long-lasting marks, are fade-resistant, apply easily to wet or dry animals, and are nontoxic.

The livestock markers are available in yellow, orange, red, green, blue and florescent pink. The animal marking sticks in twistable dispensers are available in red, blue, yellow, green and orange. The plastic casing and cap on the twistable sticks helps keep hands and clothing clean.

The livestock markers and animal marking sticks can be used for vaccinating, sorting, tail chalking/heat detection, health management, breeding and much more. In addition to the livestock markers and animal marking sticks, the company also produces other types of animal identification products such as ear tags, tag markers, tattooers and ink, leg bands, ear notchers and marking spray.

Multifunction bench scale

Mettler Toledo has introduced the BBA226 stainless steel bench scale, which the company says is perfect for many applications in any industrial environment, with light hose-down requirements.

The scale is designed for a wide range of weighing tasks, from out-of-the-box simple straight weighing, to over/under checkweighing, product classifying and even counting.

The scale is available in capacities ranging from 3 kg/5 lb. to 150 kg/250 lb., with weighing platforms in both rectangular and square sizes.

For more information about the scale, which was first made available in August 2010, visit www.mt.com/us.

New seed treatment

Biagro Western has developed Take Off ST, a seed treatment that the company says benefits crops by increasing early nutrient acquisition; increasing crop emergence; increasing stand uniformity; increasing root mass; and improving stress tolerance.

Primarily for cereals, oil crops, sugar crops, cotton and forage crops, the treatment has been used extensively on wheat in Europe, and has been successfully tested in field trials in barley, canola and corn.

The new treatment builds on the company's Take Off, a metabolic signaling compound originally developed at Los Alamos National Laboratory in New Mexico. Seed treatments generally mitigate stresses that occur once seed is planted, and, the company says, use rates at just one quart per ton of seed make the treatment economical.

DNA profile for replacement heifers

Igenity®, a division of Merial, has announced the availability of a DNA profile for replacement heifers. The DNA product is designed specifically for cow-calf producers and provides cost-effective analyses of these five economically important traits: fertility, maternal calving ease, average daily gain (ADG), percent Choice and tenderness.

Producers can choose from multiple types of DNA sampling procedures based on their individual operation or working facilities, and, once they receive their results, the custom-sort software from the company can help sort and rank their animals based on the traits that are most important to them.

The product was designed after research was conducted on the specific needs of cow-calf producers, and has been thoroughly researched and third-party validated, according to the company.
