New alfalfa variety

America's Alfalfa has released a new Traffic-Tested® alfalfa variety called Ameristand 445NT, which offers excellent yield potential with high nematode resistance, along with high resistance to five other diseases, and good resistance to pea aphid, Verticillium wilt and Aphanomyces root rot.

It has a fall dormancy of 4 that allows it to produce longer in colder climates and a winter hardiness of 2.5.

The new alfalfa can continue to produce under the pressures of grazing, equipment and manure applications, according to the release.

Infrared night vision spotlight

Larson Electronics' Magnalight has announced the RL-85-10W1-IR, a lightweight, rechargeable, infrared (IR) spotlight designed for extreme durability and long operational times from a single charge.

The pistol-grip shape provides comfortable handling while a single 3-watt infrared LED and patent-pending reflector design produces a strong IR light beam with an 1,800-ft. reach. The 14-ounce (oz.) total weight allows for extended operation without fatigue, while the compact and lightweight lithium ion batteries provide a 17-hour runtime on a single two-hour charge, and will not degrade due to erratic charging habits or partial charging.

The unit has a rated service life of 50,000 hours. All the materials used in the construction of this IR spotlight are impact-, water-, UV- and chemical-resistant.

98% effective bug-repelling lanterns and appliances

ThermaCell Patio Lantern, Outdoor Lantern or handheld appliances serve as both lights and insect repellent devices for outdoor enthusiasts and for those who tend to animals, and, according to tests conducted by the U.S. government, are 98% effective in fighting mosquitos, black flies and no-see-ums, according to a recent release.

ThermaCell devices are powered by a butane cartridge that provides cordless, portable heat to operate the device. A mat saturated with allethrin, a copy of an insecticide found in chrysanthemum flowers, is heated by the butane cartridge and vaporizes the repellent, allowing it to rise into the air, creating a 15-foot (ft.) x 15-ft. (225 square ft.) zone of protection.

The devices do not have an open flame and are approved by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).

New website, contest

Lincoln Electric has launched a new website that features intuitive navigation and increased product detail. The site centers on clearly marked "categories of interest," ranging from equipment to sports sponsorships, at the top of the homepage. Users simply click on these topics and see a detailed menu of selection options for each.

Once the user has selected from the menu, he or she is directed to a visually enhanced page that displays the complete company offering of products in that category. Users can narrow their results by using the available filtering menu on the side of the page.

New to the site is a login function that allows users to register with the site for a customized user experience, including a personalized product wish list that they can save for future reference.

To celebrate the new site, the company will reward new registered users with the chance to win prizes. The first 150 registered users to create a login name and password automatically will win a T-shirt, and those who create a wish list will have the chance to win the items on the list in the "Win Your Wish List" giveaway.

Users who create a wish list on or before Feb. 21 will be entered into the sweepstakes. Three winners will receive up to $1,500 in products for their wish lists. The company plans to add additional features to the site during the next few months.

New modem functionality, capability

Trimble has announced a March release for its new DCM-300™ multi-use modem, which provides access to VRSTM Real-Time Kinematic (RTK) corrections and handles wireless data transfer to deliver information to and from the field or track assets.

The new modem can be used to access the company's VRS Now™ Ag RTK correction service and to enable Connected Farm™ wireless field data transfer. The new modem is also compatible with the new Farm Works® Dispatch™ asset tracking software. Dispatch software uses wireless communications and global positioning system (GPS) to manage vehicle movement and productivity. Work orders, coverage maps, yield and application maps and A-B lines may be transferred wirelessly to the farm office, multiple vehicles in different locations for follow-up operations or within the same field for accurate overlap protection.

Available in two models for use on Global System for Mobile Communications (GSM) cellular networks such as AT&T, or Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) cellular networks such as Verizon, the modem is available with a single data plan subscription from Trimble, offering farmers a cost-saving solution to consolidate data plans under one subscription, according to the release.

The company has introduced Field-IQ™ system capabilities to monitor seed delivery, fertilizer blockage and manage application of up to six variable-rate products. The new capabilities include support for row-crop planters, air seeder, strip till and spreader platforms.

The system is easy to install on application equipment from a broad range of manufacturers, allowing farmers and custom applicators to use and enhance the performance capabilities of their existing equipment.
