Heavier, more versatile tillage tools

John Deere introduces three 2600 Series Disks and one vertical tillage tool designed to provide everything from more muscle for penetrating, chopping and mixing soil and crop residue in a single pass to creating a uniform seedbed. The new lineup includes the 2625 Disk, 2623 Disk, 2620 Disk and the 2623VT (Vertical Tillage).

The new series has a full 2-inch (in.)-diameter gang bolt; increased weight per blade by 30%; and sealed, maintenance-free bearings. All new models have innovative C-spring standards and hydraulic fore-aft leveling offered on base equipment that can help provide more consistent tillage results in all types of field conditions.

The 2625 Disk is designed to be a heavyweight primary tillage tool and comes in five different working widths, from 23 feet (ft.) 7 in. to 40 ft. 8 in. It features 24- or 26-in. disk blades on either 9- or 11-in. spacings. The 2625 provides a maximum working depth up to 8 in. and a minimum of 280 pounds (lb.) of weight per blade.

The 2623 Disk features 24- and 26-in. disk blades set on 9-in. spacing, C-spring standards with weights per blade ranging from 201-243 lb., depending on the selected blade size and width model. It provides a working tillage depth of up to 6 in., making it ideal for use in postharvest residue chopping or preparing spring seedbeds for planting. The 2623 is available in 10 different widths, ranging from 20 ft. 9 in. to the extra-wide 49 ft. 3 in. model.

The 2620 is designed to till lighter soils and create an ideal seedbed for planting, and will loosen the top 3-5 in. of soil. It features 22- or 24-in. blades on 7.25-in. or 9-in. spacings with weight per blade of 179-209 lb. A harrow or rolling basket can be added to help break up clods and create a more consistent soil surface. It comes in 10 different width models ranging from 20 ft. 9 in. to 49 ft. 3 in.

All three of the 2600 series disks have transport widths from 13 ft. 6 in. to 16 ft. 3 in., and transport heights from 10 ft. to 15 ft., depending on the specific width model. Recommended field operating speeds range from 5 to 7 mph.

The 2623VT features a unique angled gang and blade configuration. The front gang has 22-in. shallow concavity spherical blades on 7.25-in. spacings and is angled 21° to provide maximum residue chopping while helping the blade maintain a sharp edge longer.

The rear gang has 22-in. shallow concavity wavy blades on a 19° angle that helps anchor residue and aerate the soil. The 2623 VT also features an industry-exclusive active hydraulic rolling basket that provides more consistent ground contact when used in tough field conditions or rolling terrain. It is available in five different widths from 26 ft. 5 in. to 40 ft. 8 in. and can be operated at 7 to 10 mph, according to the release.

Fixed-chamber round baler

Krone introduces the Bellima line of fixed-chamber balers for 2012. The round baler has evolved from the KR 125/130 model. Simple by design and operated by a low-hp tractor, the low-maintenance fixed-chamber round baler produces rock-hard bales from silage, hay and straw, according to the release.

The new baler features a camless EasyFlow pick-up, which the company says reduces wear on the machine and can pick up at a 30% higher speed than a standard pick-up cam and is noticeably quieter.

An updated exterior and chain elevator technology with narrowly spaced slats can reduce friction and power loss, according to the release. The bale chamber is fully enclosed to minimize fragmentation. As the slats mesh with the material, they give the elevator a better grip for a more positive rotation of the bale, a big benefit in handling a very dry or very wet crop.

The baler uses no electronics. The operator starts the twine and net-wrap system from the tractor's spool. The net and twine rolls are housed in the front of the machine and the storage compartment offers room for six rolls of twine or two net rolls. The number of net wraps is set on an adjuster and the number of twine wraps is set on a stepped wheel without the use of tools.

Pet cooling system

K-9 KooleeThe B Anthony Core Group LLC introduces a unique pet cooling system, K-9 Koolee™, designed by dog lover and outdoor enthusiast Brian McClish to protect pets from overheating while accompanying their owners at the beach, poolside, picnics, parks, hiking, traveling, camping or herding.

The cooling system features the B Core Polymer Cooling System™, a nontoxic, hyperabsorbable polymer that comes packaged inside cooling pouches in a freeze-dried state. The pouches are inserted into clear plastic sleeves designed to prevent evaporation of water and create an unbreakable seal. Simply fill the sleeves with water and the B Core Polymer will absorb and expand to its full, hydrated state.

The polymer should then be cooled in a refrigerator to the desired temperature. Once cooled, place the sleeves in the blue outer pouches (the bed) that are made of a breathable fabric material designed to allow the cooling power of the polymer to emit through the bed to the dog. The entire unit is self-contained and provides a cool surface for a pet to lounge on for hours.

The unit is portable, lightweight and has a built-in handle and shoulder strap. The pop-up canopy provides instant shade and a home away from home. The pouch enclosures are machine washable and highly durable for hours of use. The product was field-tested on the beaches of Florida and can maintain a cool surface for up to eight hours.

The system is available in two sizes: small/medium (20 ✕ 28) for pets up to 55 pounds (lb.), and large (24 ✕ 36) for dogs from 55 lb. to 125 lb.
