Gizmos & Gadgets

Products and services for the farm and ranch.

This month’s column features a new intranasal cattle vaccine, an all-season cattle mineral formulated for every production cycle, a LiDAR-capable and fully automated square baler, and a new paint style and app for round balers.

Nasal vaccine covers viral and bacterial pneumonia
Bovilis® Nasalgen® 3-PMH is the first and only intranasal bovine respiratory disease (BRD) vaccine that offers protection against infectious bovine rhinotracheitis (IBR), bovine respiratory syncytial virus (BRSV), parainfluenza-3 virus (PI3), Pasteurella multocida and Mannheimia haemolytica.

The vaccine is safe to use in calves one week of age and older. A unique BluShadow® diluent temporarily stains the nostril, so there’s no second-guessing which animals have been vaccinated.

Bovilis Nasalgen 3-PMH is just one dose and safe to use on pregnant cows and in calves nursing pregnant cows. The intranasal administration method allows the vaccine to mimic natural exposure to the most common causes of pneumonia for an effective immune response.

Square baler uses LiDAR tech
The next wave of automation is coming to large square baling in 2024 through Case IH Baler Automation. Designed for hands-free efficiency, Large Square Baler Automation maximizes throughput and delivers consistent, high-quality bales regardless of operator experience level.

Case IH Baler Automation

Case IH Baler Automation is the industry’s first light detection and ranging (LiDAR) baling system, opening unprecedented opportunities for hay producers in efficiency and productivity.

The LiDAR-based swath analysis sends out laser pulses to measure the position and size of the windrows. The technology adjusts the speed and steering of the tractor to maximize throughput without overloading the baler, resulting in increased runtime compared to traditional baling.

Blue tractors, yellow implements
Beginning in 2024, New Holland is transitioning its hay tool styling to a striking yellow. New Holland is aligning its brand to present the cohesive and powerful message of blue tractors and yellow harvesting implements, including hay tools.

The yellow transition begins with commercial hay tools for late model year 2024, then unfolds in model year 2025 to include the Pro-Belt™ round balers.

In a strategic move to modernize custom round baling, New Holland has unveiled its latest innovation, the Bale Manager app. This technology allows operators and customers to simplify and streamline baling data from their smart devices, including:

  • storing baling data;
  • monitoring baling activity: bale count, size and moisture;
  • simplifying accounts receivable: invoice customers from the tractor cab;
  • exporting data as a PDF, QIF or, coming soon, CSV; and
  • search through completed jobs.
