New Products

Forage inoculant finalized

Lallemand Animal Nutrition has developed a new product formulation for forage inoculants after purchasing Sil-All® in 2011 and evolving the product through new formulations aimed to improve the control of ensiling fermentation.

The new formulation, Sil-All 4 ✕ 4 includes Pediococcus pentosaceus, plus proprietary production and stabilization technologies that work together to improve fermentation efficiency. A faster, more efficient fermentation means a greater preservation of nutrients in stored forages and, therefore, greater production potential, according to the release.

Combination vaccine for viruses and bacteria

Veterinary Biologics has been issued a license by the USDA for Titanium® 5 + PH-M, a vaccine that protects cattle against the viruses and bacteria most associated with bovine respiratory disease (BRD).

Marketed by Elanco, the new vaccine is a combination of two trusted vaccines. Its viral component, Titanium 5, delivers modified-live virus (MLV) protection against five important viruses that cause BRD. Its PH-M component provides coverage against two bacteria that are well-known for causing pasteurellosis (part of the BRD complex). The new vaccine is safe for cattle in all stages of production.

The new vaccine is formulated with a low-reactive, water-soluble adjuvant. The result is a low-volume (2 mL), subcutaneous (sub-Q) dose that is consistent with Beef Quality Assurance (BQA) guidelines. The new vaccine is approved for use in cattle 60 days of age and older, and it is backed by noninterference, efficacy and safety research. It is available in 10-dose and 50-dose packages through veterinarians and animal-health distributors.

Novartis Natunes™

Nontoxic biocides for insect control

Novartis Animal Health US Inc. has introduced Natunex™, a patented, nontoxic biocide for insect control that the company says has no residual buildup in the environment and is safe for use around people and animals.

Not formulated with synthetic chemicals as traditional insecticides are, the active ingredients in the new biocide are plant-derived essential oils that have natural insecticidal properties. The company says these formulations are proven to deliver efficacy that is comparable or superior to chemical-based insecticides, without their toxicity, safety concerns, resistance issues or application limitations.

The new biocide kills by contact with a technology platform developed by TyraTech Inc. that works by blocking specific tyramine nerve receptors that are only active in insects and parasites. The product line includes six formulations to control a wide variety of insects. Two liquid formulations are available, an insect killer and a drain fly killer. Natunex TechDust® is a powder-based product, and aerosol products available include a crawling-insect killer, a flying-insect killer and a stinging-insect killer.

Mobile charging device

Sun Power Bank 3000 charging a phone (left). The flexibility of the carabineer on the right allows users to position the charger in any configuration necessary to obtain ultimate sun exposure.

Secur Products, a division of Maverick Industries Inc., based in Edison, N.J., has introduced the Sun Power Bank 3000, a combination of a high-capacity, 3000mAh lithium battery with an ultra-efficient solar panel that is capable of harvesting four times the power of conventional panels.

The device can be charged to full battery capacity in two hours when charging via USB or in five to seven hours when charging via solar in full sunlight. When full and during recharging, the device can be used to charge smartphones, digital cameras, GPS devices, MP3 players and tablets.

The charger also features a built-in LED light that swivels to function as a high-power flashlight or reading light. The attached metal carabineer can be used to hang the charger, it can be folded to balance the charger on a table or to attach it to the neck of a bottle.

The flexibility of the carabineer allows users to position the charger in any configuration necessary to obtain ultimate sun exposure. Water-resistant and built to travel, the charger measures 3 inches (in.) ✕ 4.75 in. with a weight of 6.65 ounces (oz.).

Lighting and surveillance combined

Liberated Energy Inc. has announced the Guard-Lite, a self-powered hybrid lighting and security system that can be installed at any location without wiring or an electrical permit. The company says it is possible to grow crops in isolated city warehouses without sunlight by using its hybrid wind- and solar-powered LED lighting and security systems.

The new system provides wireless security camera and lighting systems that are both a license-plate camera and motion-activated camera system combined. Ranch and property owners can maintain security on their remote properties by installing the system in areas where a “picture” would provide vital information for the owners, such as verifying food and water volume for animals or checking crop field progress.

The pictures can be instantly pushed to any mobile phone as an SMS alert or stored on the company’s cloud-based servers for future review. The Web-based user interface that is available in a mobile phone app is the software that controls the solar- and wind-powered cellular security camera for picture acquisition methods, capturing a live image, time-lapse video and many more helpful features.

The motion-activated camera with night-vision technology and lighting can also alert farmers if an unexpected visitor enters the property. The ranch owner can receive an instant SMS alert on a cell phone once motion is detected.

Solar-powered LED light tower

The Larson Electronics SPLT-1.8K-800A-30-4 ✕160-LED-MS is a 1.8KW solar generator system that replenishes 800 amp hours of usable battery capacity per day

Larson Electronics has announced the release of a solar powered generator with a pneumatic light tower mast equipped with four 160-watt LED light heads. The solar light tower includes six solar panels, a solar charging system, battery bank, and a pneumatic mast mounted on a trailer with outriggers and a removable tongue.

The SPLT-1.8K-800A-30-4 ✕160-LED-MS is a 1.8KW solar generator system that replenishes 800 amp hours of usable battery capacity per day. This solar security system is equipped with four 160-watt LED light heads atop a 30-ft. collapsible, pneumatic mast and is equipped with a motion sensor for instant illumination whenever motion within the secure area is detected.

The unit is composed of six 30-watt solar panels that are mounted to a rotating axis assembly. The panels can be rotated until they face upwards. As part of the deployment, operators will set the four outriggers into position by pulling them out and pinning them into position.

The trailer houses a built-in wire raceway that brings power from the component control center and batteries to the light mast. The pneumatic mast reaches 30 ft. in height via the use of a low-voltage air compressor located in the job box. The compressor is equipped with a pressure switch that maintains the pressure within the mast. When it is time to take the mast down for transport, the operator simply releases the pressure switch and the mast will slowly release pressure and lower to its full collapsed height of 8.25 ft.
