This month’s edition features a pour-on dewormer for cattle; a parasiticide for companion animals; a feed additive used to promote weight gain and improve feed efficiency in finishing feedyard cattle; a kit for your hunting needs; and a website to order your new hat.

More deworming flexibility
From average daily gains and conception rates to milk production and immunity, parasites can wreak havoc. Whether your cattle spend their days roaming the pasture or the drylot, your bottom line can suffer if you’re not deworming.

Eprinex pour-on dewormer

To provide producers more flexible administration options, Boehringer Ingelheim has introduced a 10-L bottle of Eprinex® (eprinomectin) pour-on dewormer that can be used inverted or upright, with vented caps. This new packaging size offers added convenience for producers who are deworming large cattle herds, but don’t require the amount of product that the 20-L bottle already offers.

“We are committed to providing practical parasite control solutions for cattle operations of all sizes,” says Doug Ensley, veterinarian and technical marketing manager for Boehringer Ingelheim.

Eprinex is the first dewormer to kill 39 species and stages of parasites, with up to 99.9% efficacy. This dewormer is convenient for processing cattle on arrival, and its nonflammable, weatherproof formula works even on long, wet hair coats.

No meat or milk withdrawal is required when used according to label. Do not use in calves intended for veal or unapproved animal species, as severe adverse reactions, including fatalities in dogs, may result.

Parasite protection for your dog
Merck Animal Health, a division of Merck & Co. Inc., and Virbac have signed a definitive agreement under which Merck Animal Health would acquire the U.S. rights to Sentinel® Flavor Tabs® and Sentinel Spectrum® Chews in the companion animal category. Merck Animal Health will make a cash payment of approximately $400 million to acquire the branded products in the United States at closing of the acquisition.

Comprehensive parasite protection is an essential part of canine overall health and well-being. The Bravecto® product line, including extended-duration flea and tick protection products, and the Sentinel branded products, which control all common intestinal parasites, provide an attractive opportunity for broad-spectrum, year-round comprehensive internal and external parasite protection for dogs. These complementary products will cover the seven common, harmful parasites that affect dogs inside and out by preventing ticks and multiple stages of the flea life cycle, including eggs and adult fleas, as well as treating and controlling all common intestinal parasites, including roundworms, hookworms, whipworms and tapeworms and preventing heartworm disease.

“Veterinary medicines, including parasiticides, and vaccines have transformed the health of animals over the past decade,” says Rick DeLuca, president of Merck Animal Health. “This product acquisition reinforces Merck Animal Health’s commitment to our customers and our position in the United States companion animal category.”

The closing of the transaction is subject to antitrust clearance and other customary closing conditions, and is expected to close by mid-year 2020.

Feed additive receives FDA approval
Global animal health company Huvepharma received U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approval for Optigrid® 45, a feed additive used to promote weight gain and improve feed efficiency in finishing feedyard cattle.

Optigrid 45, which is composed of the active ingredient ractopamine hydrochloride, is a bio-equivalent to Optaflexx®. It can be fed as a complete feed or top-dressed for cattle fed in confinement for slaughter during the last 28-48 days on feed prior to harvest. When fed as a complete feed, ractopamine hydrochloride can also promote increased carcass leanness.

“In today’s challenging world, with the continued need for efficiency in beef production, we are pleased to bring further medicated feed additive options such as Optigrid 45 to the cattle industry,” says Glen Wilkinson, president of Huvepharma Inc. U.S.

Wilkinson points out that as an FDA-approved bio-equivalent, the product provides the same benefits of dosage, chemical identity, potency, quality and safety to the existing ractopamine hydrochloride brand.

“Optigrid 45 adds another choice from Huvepharma’s expanding product line, and is a continued example of our commitment to bring our core strength in medicated feed additives to the U.S. animal food producing industry,” adds Wilkinson. “Huvepharma’s product development, regulatory and sales teams are dedicated to providing effective and essential animal health products to the livestock industry.”

Throughout the United States, Huvepharma is focused on building partnerships with industry customers by offering high-quality products and unparalleled customer service. Kit for hunting
Everything you need to field dress and break down game of any size is in Outdoor Edge’s new Jaeger Pak knife set. In this compact lightweight kit, you will find a skinning, gutting and boning knife, a rib-cage spreader, wood/bone saw and a two-stage ceramic/carbide sharpener. All items fit neatly into a hard case for easy storage.

Jaeger Pak knife set

The lightweight and durable 5-inch (in.) boning/fillet knife allows you to get into the tightest spaces between bone and meat with little to no waste. This blade shape is the perfect design for separating primary muscles and slicing steaks. The 4.0 skinner knife features a drop-point blade that allows you to sweep through the skinning job and get through the thick layers with ease while the downward angle-point assists in preventing any accidental slices through the hide. This knife lends itself to choking up on the blade for caping out a trophy head and detail cutting. The third knife is a 3.7-in. blunt-tipped gutting knife that runs underneath the skin to provide a seamless, effortless cut without piercing vital organs.

Featuring full-tang design, all three knives in the new Jaeger Pak are exceptionally strong and reliable. High-quality 420J2 stainless steel blades are precisely heat-treated and hand-finished to a shaving-sharp final edge to debone carcass after carcass without dulling.

Additional tools include a T-handle wood/bone saw that allows straight wrist butting from any angle with triple-ground saw teeth that cut aggressively through both tough bone and wood. The ribcage spreader is a pivoting stainless steel bar that spreads the chest fully open to allow better air flow for faster cooling of fresh game meat.

The Jaeger will be available July 2020 at retailers nationwide and online. For more information, visit www.outdooredge.com.
